    Default Humidity Gauge?

Can anyone recommend an good, accurate humidity gauge? I'm beginning to become concerned about the room that I store my guns in.

I picked up a combo therm/hygrometer for about $5.00. The need for a laboratory unit really isn't necessary. In the summer my gun room runs from 70% to 80% humidity.
Even if it was as high as 90% it only equates out to about 4% of actual water.

I use a Goldenrod in the safe, as well as a quick oil wipe down every six months or so. I have never had any problems with rust of any kind. The room is hot and humid during the summer months, (no AC), during the winter there is a gas fired furnace, that I keep around 56 degrees, unless I'm reloading then I'll bump it up to around 68.
I've only had the safe for a little over 2 years. Prior to that my guns were stored in a fairly good sized foot locker type arrangement, then it was only the oil protecting them. For oil I use Hoppe's gun oil, nothing fancy, and its been working great.

Probably my largest risk of loss would be documents from the prohibition era.

The only thing I would add to Jack's post is... that when you go to pick one up - don't pick the first one on the rack.
Look at all of them, of the type you want to purchase.
Pick one that is consistent with the rest of them on the rack. Very often there are few on the hanger that are higher or lower (not calibrated/broken) than the rest of the herd.

    Anyway… back to work 4 me……..

Check out a hygrometer which tells humidity and temp together. Radio shack has some.

may I be an idiot for a moment, and ask, what really is the importance of knowing the humidity for where you store your guns?

Water in the air + metal = rust

Add wood into that, you can getr swelling and twisting, or conversely, splitting / cracking.

Try a pet store, they have nice small ones for about $5 for reptiles.
