I love it when people don't realize how idiotic, asshole-ish, moronic, etc they are when they set out to prove something.

I would have asked him to follow me to the housewares dept and found a mirror for him to look in just so that I could explain to him what a REAL ASS HOLE looked like and then I would have walked away.

It's not enough to self-admit. Everyone has to think it too.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

It's their JOB to maintain order. My job is to protect myself and my loved ones, if any.

Asshole was creating a disturbance and inciting violence and threatening violence.

The one who calls the cops FIRST, gets to be the OFFICIAL victim.

Calling the police may prevent me from needing to gyakute nage him into the floor, punch him in the throat, or shoot him.

If I can make him somebody ELSE'S problem, I'm all for it.

Besides, how many times have the cops said, "You don't need a gun, we're here to 'protect' you!"?

Not that I have the slightest expectation of being "protected" as an individual by police...

Good job in not letting him get to you. I have a response ready for this type of person, although I have not yet had to use it. If they get all nasty about how I am in the wrong for exercising my 2A rights, my reply will be along the lines of:

"Yet you have no problem inflicting your 1A rights on me, do you?"

This kind of person knows full well you will not assault him. If he had even the slightest fear of being shot, or even punched, he would have kept his mouth shut. Another possibility is to ask him if he confronts gang bangers the same way. Of course, be prepared for a lie. I probably would have called the cops too, right in front of him. I would have followed him around while on the phone with the police, right up to the point of getting his license number if he tried to leave. Most of the cops I have encountered have been pretty good guys. I can just imagine the laugh they would get out of some jerk confronting an armed man.

ETA: Tried to rep you, but I need to spread the love first.
