AR upper receiver action block trick
Any suggestions to avoiding the purchase of an action block for installing a new barrel? It's not so much that I don't want to spend the money, but I'm in a hurry and don't feel like waiting a week to get it shipped.
If no substitute solution is available, any experience with the DPMS Panther Claw?

No experience with the DPMS Claw.
You really want to hold that upper receiver in something solid when putting on the barrel and most action blocks also come with an insert for the inside so that you don't break something. Remember the upper is aluminum so it could chip, crack or break if not supported correctly.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Wait for the block. I cant recall where the thread was, but there was someone who fabbed their own wooden copy that still broke the upper.

You need a vise. You can pinch the upper carefully between old hardbound books or soft wood and get it done, but DO NOT crush the upper!
Go easy and wrench the barrel and then add tension as you needed and you should be ok.

Yup.
Borrow one.
The barrel job is enough of a PITFA with that STUPID godforsaken wrench thing, and it's worthless teeth... why make it any harder.

Re: AR upper receiver action block trick
Update for anyone interested...I decided to exercise some patience and ordered the DPMS Claw from Cheaper than Dirt. Looks like it should work out nicely. Thanks for help.
