Its a question of capacity vs power in defensive situations against Man or Beast.Last edited by tsafa; June 15th, 2010 at 08:01 PM.

I voted .44 mag, if you haven't solved the problem with 6 of them flight not fight better be your forte. However, a Smith and Wesson N frame is what you want, not a Taurus.

I voted for a .44, would rather this for four legged defense. I use a semi auto for two legged predators. If it was to be used for both at all times and not just when in the woods then I would go for the .357 and load it with hot flat nose rounds when in the woods and a 125 gr. hollowpoint for human defense.

2 tools, two totally different jobs.
beast, 44 mag, any day of the week, and twice on sunday.
man? 44? the word is "overpenetration" through him, through the wall, into the neighbors house...from there......
for home? 357
and i agree with rundown. smith all the way. learn to make it work with 6

there are many loads for both....but if a 44 mag is on the menu, you best go with it....and remember there is 44spl's for it as well.
both calibers are perfect for the hand loader.
i like my 357's to carry small bullets with lots of powder and speeds around 2000ft/s.
the 44mags hold heavy bullets and lots of powder too.
however the loudness can be turned way down on both.it's only metal, we can out think it....

I voted for the 8 shot since you're far more likely to be attacked by 2 legged vermin than 4...
