Default Source for a suppressor cover?

Anyone know of a "homemade", Mother Earth's News suppressor cover?

"NOMEX" cover material seems to be hard to find, I was thinking maybe like a length of radiator hose slipped over the can?

    Thanks for the brainstorm!

    Thanks Nate,

Actually looked at Bowers (as I have a CAC380), but didn't want to drop the bucks for a silicone cover if a locally-fabbed subsitute - radiator hose? - could be found.

    Gotcha.
I know you said local, but i use both of these guys for silicone couplers for my intercoller piping and turbos.
    They might work for you.

either way, i would go with a silicone hose over a "rubber" radiator hose.
Only hard part will be finding a straight piece on the diameter you want.
    good luck

Are you covering to protect it, or to prevent burning yourself?

Little of both, just wanted to get the non-commercial look of the rubberized black.

Elite Iron makes a pretty neat design and it is not too expensive:

    Those wraps look interesting!

I has an FA Uzi back in the day that had an off-brand suppressor on it. It was a pretty quiet can, but not very good materiel. If you ripped off a fast 64 rounds, it would get awfully hot, with 3 fast mags you could light a cigarette on it.

I had a hydraulics shop make me a cover; hi-temp silicone with a black anodized braided steel cover and finished ends (they were making all of the lines for my cars at the time, too).

Anyway, it looked cool; it kept me from burning everything, and in short order, the can burned out (through, actually). Seems that the can NEEDS to be exposed to the air for that kind of use, it uses the air as its heat sink.

I don't see that being a problem on a semi, though.

I think the can was a SilencerCo; the design was OK, but the materials were shit. I've priced out the materials to duplicate it, and if I ever have enough spare cash to spring for a tax stamp, I figure I can duplicate it for about $30, if I use exhaust pipe for the cover (or $45 if I use stainless exhaust)...I'd like to have one on my M&P 15-22.

I doubt it if it was "back in the day" SilencerCo just started up in 2008. Their design and construction has been nothing but stellar so far.

No, you are absolutely correct...the SilenceCo stuff looks real good.

I dug out the old paperwork, the suppressors were 'Sionics Singles'. I miss the old days. The Mac 10 was 89.95, the magazines were 8.95 each, the cans (I bought three, I don't remember why 3, but there you go) were 73.95 each, .45 fmjs were 88.88 for a 25-box case, and a 1000-round brick of .22LR was 4.88. I actually paid more for a Midland CB that day (109.00) than the gun!

The Uzi was bought for $495, used, with IDF markings, a case, 4-32-round mags two barrels, and a wooden stock. It was $45 for a folding stock and 7 bucks for a flash hider. Looks like the ammo was 99.95 for a can (1250 rounds?) of Israeli-made 9x19 surplus.

I freely admit that I was pretty much an arrogant asshole in those days, back when I was at that age that you think you know everything.

Anyway, a few years later, with serious talk about either an outright ban, or a much more expensive tax that had to be paid yearly, a lot of folks who had MGs and SMGs at that time sold them off in basically a panic. Unfortunately, I was one of the sellers, although both went for lots more than I originally paid for them...nothing close to what I could have sold them for today.

By the way; a new M16A2 at the time was under $600, just a little too steep for me.
