nope.. 22mag is longer and has a tapered casing. A Long Rifle will usually split it's casing wall due to the over sized base of the 22mag chamber.

EDIT: however, if you get a 22 Long Rifle cylinder - you'd be good to go.

What kind of Ruger revolver? If a Ruger Super Single Six you should have gotten both a 22 mag and 22 cylinder. If it is Ruger SSS you should be able to find the 22 cylinder at an auction site or contact Ruger to get one.

I don't know if it is some kind of timing issue or what, but was warned that the SUPPLIED .22 long cyl. is engraved with a number to match the frame because that cyl. has been matched to that frame and that to buy a "spare" would possibly cause bad shaving etc.... I don't remember my source for this information or the validitiy of it, but wanted to throw it out there as a caveat. I will try on a ruger forum to get more info.

Look at the manual for the gun here in PDF format. It indicates that the three digit number on the cylinder MUST match the last three digits of the serial number of the gun for timing related issues. Here is the link to the manual. It can be found on page 17
