Default SIGPRO 2022 slide not locking

Hey guys, I just picked up a preowned SIGPRO 2022 9mm today at gander..of course I bought 100 rounds of 9 with it and took it out to the range right after purchase. Great shooting handgun and my only complaint is, on the last round the slide was not locking back. More often then not it would fail to lock back after the last round. My question is: Is this a problem with the magazine, handgun, or maybe the ammo? Any sig 2022 owners have the same problem? Thanks for any help in advance.

Doesn't Gander Mountain offer some type of short warranty on all guns from them? Take it back and let them fix it.

Before you return it, have someone else fire it, and see if they have the problem too. Sometimes it can be the way you grip the weapon which causes the slide not to lock back. You could be hitting the slide release.

As ExCop said, it may be that you are resting your thumb on the slide release. I have a 2022 (love it), and its slide release is fairly easy to trip compared to other handguns I own.

    1. Did you try more than one mag?

    2. Did you make sure the mag was seated fully?

    3. Let someone else shoot it...

Fire it with your left hand and see if the problem goes away, if it does your thumb is contacting that long slide lock/release on the Sigpro.

If that doesnt work try another mag or another shooter. see what happens.

I bought a used one and have never had that problem. Great pistol!
Never bought at Gander but would take it back for repair on their dime since they seem to charge more than most LGD's. Company as large as Gander should have a warranty. My LGD warranties his used guns for 6 months.
Good luck and let us know what happens with the problem or how well Gander fixes it.

I'm with Pagoda on this one. Definitely try another magazine. I have a Sig 226 that's almost 15 years old, and I have a similar issue with the original magazine where it won't always lock back after the last round. I have not encountered this issue with my newer magazines that have less wear-and-tear.

If the magazine is the source of the issue, you can always place an identifier on it (ex: piece of tape on the bottom) and use it is a back-up magazine.

Since the pistol is pre-owned, check the following:
    1. Magazine: Disassemble the magazine and clean. check the magazine
follower for heavy wear, especially the left front where the follower pushes
up the slide catch lever to lock the slide to the rear on the last shot. Check the magazine spring for crimps or broken parts.
    2. Clean the Pistol, Remove the Slide from the Frame. Check The Slide Catch
Lever and Spring. With your fingernail, lift up on the slide catch, you
should feel tension. Then let it go, it should snap back down into place.
If not the problem could be the spring is dirty and needs to be cleaned,
or if too weak needs replaced or possibly broken
    3. Take your Empty magazine and insert it into the magazine well of the
frame(Slide Removed of Course), watch as the magazine follower comes in
contact with the slide catch lever and see if it pushes it up.
    4. Reassemble the pistol, Insert an Empty Magazine into the magazine
well, Pull the slide to the rear rapidly, letting it go, the Slide catch lever
should lock the slide to the rear. If not the slide catch lever spring will
    need replaced.

Thanks for the help everyone. Gander does have a warrenty on there used firearms so if the issue is with the sig I most certainly will be taking it back and having them check it out. The sig only came with one magazine, I will be ordering more very soon so right now I can't check if the magazine is the problem. I'm really hoping/thinking it is my error this is my first sig and first handgun with a slide release placed where it is, didn't even cross my mind that the issue could have been the way I was holding the handgun. Next time I take it to the range I will be checking this possibility out.
