A pump 12 gauge shotgun for first range fun gun? I can see the HD part, but not so sure about the range fun, from ammo cost, to recoil, it ain't too much fun.

Tanner seems to have some of the the best prices in the area.

could be. sounds possible, but not sure enough to say yes. look more like a leo store than general public from the outside. it was small.

I would go to Tanners for a handgun. I bought a few there already, They also gave me a good price in a trade. I bought a few from Surplus city also. I went to Tanners one day and they were closed, so I went ot Surplus City. I had money in pocket looking for a Ruger MKIII. I should have waited and gone to Tanners as it was much cheaper. Surplus city has decent deals on Ammo once on a while.

I would recommend Classic Piston in southampton. That is where i went to buy my first pistol. They were very friendly and helpful. Decent selection of used and new guns with good prices.

You may be able to shop around and find a better price, but those folk will take real good care of you.
    You "may" be able to?

It's 2010. I can order most any gun online and have it shipped to SPAG, pay their ridiulous 55$ transfer fee and still beat their prices by 50-60$ minimum.

Also Jimmy the owner/manager is probably the most unfriendly person on staff in that place.

SPAG is an awesome range and shop for the random consignments that are good deals and the occasional snap caps or other random accessory when you need it. They are horrible in terms of gun prices and transfer fee prices.

Buy online through the for sale forums here or on places like gunbroker or whittakerguns or budsgunshop and get it shipped to Howard at JB Arms in Upper Darby or the guy down in Conshy at Teaford Auto. 25$ long arm and 35$ pistol transfers.

If I were you and looking for an 870 shotgun I would go straight to the guy at summitgunbroker and buy one of their remingtons. The guy is legit and good to deal with. Contact one of the ffl I gave you above and get out the door under 300$ for a wingmaster. Buy a cheap 18" barrel and keep the longer one or trade if you want.

    Check these out
    http://www.summitgunbroker.com/Wingmaster.html
    http://www.summitgunbroker.com/Rem_870_Exp.html

    PS: buy a wingmaster.

Now if you want a range gun that is fun and you are not shooting clays then a 9mm pistol should serve your needs well too. Here is one for example.

Jgsales also recently had some Hipowers and sig 226 for ~400$ so you can usually find a bunch of good 9mm pistols for under 450$ too.

If you want to go shoot at spag and get a feel for various things drop me a PM or something. I have a shotgun and 9mm pistols you can try and I am a member so it doesn't end up being too expensive.
