Appleseed- FUNdamentals of Rifle Marksmanship - Manheim, PA
The Appleseed Project, sponsored by the RWVA, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit association, visits Manheim, PA for a 2-Day Marksmanship and American Heritage Clinic on June 19-20, 2010.
The Appleseed Program is designed to take you from simply being a rifle owner to being a true Rifleman. All throughout American history, the Rifleman has been defined as a marksman capable of hitting targets from 500 yards away! This 500-yard range is traditionally known as "the rifleman's quarter-mile." A rifleman can hit just about any target he/she can see.
Learn the “Six steps to firing the shot.” Learn correct firing positions and proper use of the sling. Hear some little-known Revolutionary War history and reaffirm your heritage. Become a more influential citizen and make America a better place.
What you can expect:
* New Shooters - learn fundamentals and make quick progress.
* Experienced Shooters - learn techniques to tighten your groups.
* Experts – polish skills, become an RWVA Instructor in Training.
* Everyone – expect to have a great time!
Why should you come? To hear the story that every American should hear. About how your forebears took up arms, on the first day of the American Revolution, and did things no other people in the world have ever done. To learn things you don't learn in school - about that day, about the real start of the Revolution. According to John Adams, it was over before it started.
Another reason... To meet fellow Americans who feel like you do, and to bathe in an association with real Americans that is lacking in your everyday life, so you'll go back home rejuvenated - and maybe with hope for the future, for the first time in years. We want to teach men, women, and children- bring the family to learn together!
Cost: Walk-on fees are $80.00 for both days, or $50.00 for one day.
Pre-register and pay online and save! $70.00 for both days, or $45.00 for one day. Two-day participants receive a free T-shirt!
Shooters under 21, active military (including reserves and guard), and women shoot for FREE!
Misc: There is a restaurant onsite open on Sunday only. PLEASE BRING LUNCH ON SATURDAY. Bring extra water and light snacks.
Rifles cased and left in vehicle until after Safety Briefing and until instructed to bring them to the firing line. Pistols left in vehicle for entire event. No loaded firearms on the range unless on the firing line and load command has been given. Eye and ear protection required. Starts at 08:30, please arrive early to allow time for set up and sign in.
Shooting distance: most of the instruction will be at 25 meters. After the marksmanship improves, there will be opportunity for 100 or 200 yard shooting on Sunday.
Directions: From the PA turnpike East or West (range is only 5 minute ride from exit):
1) Take the PA-72 exit, EXIT 266, toward LEBANON/LANCASTER.
2) Turn RIGHT onto LEBANON RD/PA-72. Go 0.9 miles
3) Turn RIGHT onto CIDER PRESS RD. Go 0.4 miles
4) Turn RIGHT onto PINCH RD. Go 1.1 miles to entrance to Range on right just past Campground entrance

Re: Appleseed- FUNdamentals of Rifle Marksmanship - Manheim, PA
BigH,
I enjoyed your instruction at Manheim in May. You and Frank and the other volunteers do an outstanding job teaching the FUNdamentals of rifle marksmanship!
I especially enjoyed your "rear sight is your friend and the front sight is not so friendly" comment. I am a pistol instructor and had never heard that before but it is a great way to remember how things work.
Chainsaw informs me that he will be attending the next monthly meeting at Palmerton Rod and Gun Club. I am hopeful that we can get a favorable vote to have the club host an Appleseed event perhaps as soon as August. Once the membership sees how well run the program is and how much fun they are I suspect it could be a regular thing there.
Keep up the good work,
twoguns
