Default Redfield 2x7 for AR 3 gun?

    Hey all,

In my search for a great AR scope, I was pretty set on a 1x4. So going to cabelas to look today, bill behind the counter actually talked me out of the $200 leupold 1-4 and into a Redfield 2x7. it's actually made by leupold in their factory, with good specs and the same warrenty, for only $140! seems too good to pass up, so I didn't!

anyway I'm thinking a 2x might be tough to run up close, but the cross in a circle reticle (+) kinda seems to work pretty well. Is this a good scope for 3 gun and plinking, or should I trade it in within 30 days and get something differnt?

    Depends on your matches.

At 100 yards+ you should spank the red dots, but inside 50 they will get he best of you unless you have a lot of hunting or other experience with scopes.

With a lit reticle you can keep both eyes open and use it like a dot and then have magnification to shoot deeper.

I have a few Nikon 2-7 shotgun scopes which I use for various tasks, including 3 gun. At 2X I can run both eyes open no problem. I still prefer my dots for under 50 yard use, but for varied distance courses, or where you don't know what the course will be till you get there, the 2-7 is fine. Much more useful over the full spectrum than trying to use a dot at 3-400 yards, or if lighting becomes an issue, and washes out your dot.

I prefer a 1-4x but they tend to be a little pricier. Run the 2-7x, and if you feel its holding you back, get a good 1-4x. The Trijicon TR24 is a great choice.
