Sounds a bit over inflated. Maybe that includes ticket sales.

I guess maybe? even if they include the full ticket sales it sounds really high, based on the number of 2k+ / person... tickets aren't anywhere near enough to make up the difference unless there are some insanely expensive tickets?

I went to a Pocono race back in '91 or '92. My tickets were $220 each. They were at the top under the cover with an open bar and food throughout the race. We stayed at a fleabag motel for 2 nights and left the area early Monday, didn't even eat breakfast there. Brought our own food and alcohol so we didn't buy it there. I do think we filled the tanks with gas before we took off. The 2 of us put very little into the local economy. We did give $20 to someone to let us cut in front of him so we could get out of the parking lot quicker, he might have been a local.

double that (2 races)

so we have 160,000 fans for the 2 races.

That would mean that every single person that goes to the race accounts for approx 2300.00 in revenue for the area... can we say bullshit? Keep in mind that most hotel rooms are going for 150 a night and the vast majority of people come up either Friday or Saturday.

The only way the races could possibly bring in that much is if they assume that every dollar that changes hands during the week before and after in the county is due to the Race

It sounded like an inflated number, but I was not going there.
