You could make it into a rifle by adding a shoulder stock and an apppriate length barrel. However, as the rules are currently written you can't turn it back into a pistol without permission from the gummit and $200 in taxes.

In the midst of that thread, I contacted ATF for clarification and they finally got back to me. Unless you want to go NFA, pistol to rifle is a one-way transformation. No going back with the narrow exception allowed for the T/C kit and similar kits.

It's a silly rule but those are the rules that we have to live with.
