AR15 vs M4 - What's the difference?

My Colt AR-15 isn't an AR-15, it's a Colt H-BAR.

If you didn't know, H-BAR means "Heavy BARrel".

It is a sub-model of the AR-15.

I thought that the wasted ammo on full auto is why the A2 had a three round burst.

10 potential hits and 20 rounds likely of wasted ammo.

Some practice you could shoot it effectively but you mine as well just shoot the dang thing in semi auto. Automatic fire is good for suppressive fire. Semi auto is when you want to actually make properly aimed shots and bring down bad guys.

The family tree analogy, AR15 is the father, which then begat the M16 and then the CAR15, which gave us the M4 and all the lovely variants for military purposes.

Anything with an 'M' designation was military, and anything 'AR' was law enforcement and civilian (which included NFA goodies).
