Question of the week: What do you think about changing gun law?

The Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee OK'd a bill that would expand the “Castle Doctrine,” which essentially says that anyone has the right to defend himself or herself with deadly force if attacked in his or her home. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Scott Perry, R-York, would change existing state law to allow anyone who is attacked to use deadly force without first trying to run away, whether at home or in any public place. The measure could go to the state House floor or it might end up in the rules or appropriations committees for further review. Current law states that if someone is attacked outside the home, there is a duty to attempt to retreat

The poll is messed up in a number of ways. It says:

Do you favor a bill that would expand the “Castle Doctrine” to allow anyone to defend himself or herself with deadly force if attacked in his or home?
    "in his or home"????

    What exactly does that mean?

If they meant to say "in his or her home", the law already says that. They SHOULD be asking if they support a law that updates to allow anyone to defend himself or herself OUTSIDE his or her home.

Please explain why "gun" is significant in the word "gun violence". Why are you differentiating between "gun violence" and other violence? What makes using a gun so special?

Running 95 - 5 right now. I'm pretty sure that the outcome of this one will end up "lost" somewhere.

I'm pleased that this bill has passed muster thus far and expect it will go all the way. But I'm dismayed that such a law should even need to be considered. Common sense tells you that defending yourself is morally correct. Why bother with having to make it legal to do so? Simply don't make it illegal.
