House Judiciary Vote
On this date the Pa. House Judiciary committee voted down two anti-gun bills and voted for Castle Doctrine Legislation that would make it clear through written legislation that an individual would not have to have the first duty to retreat upon having their home invaded. Also, the legislation would cover other parts of the house including an attached porch. There would be a provision that would disallow a civil suit against an armed defender that used deadly force in a justified manner.
The anti-gun bills in question would of done away with Pennslvania's preemption law thus allowing local communities to pass their own brand of gun restriction laws. The other bill would of outlawed AK 47s exclusively.
Two Delaware County House members were on that committee and knowing their record of being no friend of the second amendment, I am certain that both Greg Vitale and Bryan Lentz, the democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, voted in favor of both Anti-gun bills. It is a scary thought that Lentz, a long time anti-gun zealot and a past supporter for a one gun a month limitation for handgun buyers, could be our next congressman representing the citizens of the 7th district. Ponder that thought come November.

Re: House Judiciary Vote
I'm pretty sure, everyone need to READ THE BILL.....
The duty to retreat, if can be done in complete safety, is NOT taken away....

Re: House Judiciary Vote
If that is true, the judicary committee wasted their time by voting for a bill that offers no change in existing law. That is currently, you have a duty to retreat if such retreat can be done safely. That is what seperates us defending ourselves and police officers defending themselves and others. Police officers, under law, have no duty to retreat before taking action that would lead to deadly force.

Re: House Judiciary Vote
Thank you fingers for your time and effort in this matter.
As far as Delaware County forum members, you should be made aware that Bryan Lentz again showed his utter disrespect of legitimate firearm owners by being a supporter of legislation that would keep Pennsylvanians from applying for out of state carry licenses. He is a real lapdog for organizations like Cease Fire. His announcement came a short time after the aforementioned anti-gun ownership proposals were defeated. Vote Meehan in the fall.

Re: House Judiciary Vote
One key issue which has been discussed in other threads regarding the bill... there has never been any duty to retreat if attacked within your own home.
Elsewhere, yes.
Our current problem with Mr. Lenz is HB 2536 which is to be voted on on June 15th.

Re: House Judiciary Vote
Anything new on the progress of this legislation. In light of the McDonald decision, I doubt if too many of the Judiciary members want to buck the political wind and side with this fool Lentz.
