    Unhappy Shooting Death In Neighborhood

Newberry Township, York County, 500 Stevens Road, Saturday Evening.
The complete facts of the incident are not known or completely reported
at this time. Sketchy information by news media. The only thing known is
that Melissa Barnes, 38 years old, was hosting a party with her husband at
residence. At or about 9:20 pm, a male subject who was believed to be
intoxicated, was attempting to leave the party. Mrs. Brown was attempting
to have him not drive. That is when the male shot her in the head. There
is more information, but I will leave it to the police and media sources to
report the incident accuratley. I had family members at the party and like
they said, it was not pretty. The male was subdued by other people at
    the party.

That's a complete shame... This is just the kind of thing the clowns love! If you can't handle the responsibility of gun-ownership, don't own a gun of any kind! This type of incident gives us a bad name. It's just too bad.

Update: Woman shot in head at Newberry Township party dies
    By KEVIN HORAN, Staff Writer
    Updated: 06/13/2010 03:05:12 PM EDT

A Newberry Township woman died Sunday morning after suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the head Saturday, York County Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley said.

The woman, Melissa Barnes, of the 500 block of Stevens Road, was pronounced dead at 4:23 a.m. in York Hospital's trauma surgical unit, Stabley said.

Newberry Township Police reported that a woman who tried to defend a female friend against a male attacker at a party in the township Saturday was shot in the head by the man. The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Stevens Road, police said.

Newberry Township Police Chief John Snyder said that, according to witnesses, the man was arguing with a woman at the party who was a friend of the victim. When the man pushed the woman, the victim intervened, pushing the man. He then shot the victim in the head, Snyder said.

The shooter ran but was tackled by another party-goer in a nearby yard, Snyder said.

An autopsy will be performed at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

VERY VERY SAD! My condolensces and prayers go out.

Another article. Says the killer was a member of the band that was playing at the party.

    You're new here, aren't you?

All kidding aside, this is a horrible thing to have happen to anyone, or anyone you know. My condolences go out to the family and all their friends.

Unhappy Re: Shooting Death In Neighborhood

More and more informaton is becoming known about the incident as
we see from the various posts. I spent almost 30 years in and as an
LEO. I have met the victim and her husband, at a picnic. They are
friends of my son. Nice couple, but it saddens me to no end how this
trajedy unfolded. They had no children. Thanks to all for the kind thoughts
for friends and family. I will be curious to find out if the perp had a LTCF.
Will wait for the rest of the incident facts to come out.
