New 300 ACC Blackout
Introducing the Advanced Armament Corp. 300 AAC BLACKOUT (300BLK). This system was developed to launch 30 caliber projectiles from the AR platform without a reduction in magazine capacity and compatible with the standard bolt.
Full power 123 grain ammunition matches the ballistics of the 7.62x39mm AK, has 37% more energy than 5.56mm M855, and 9% more than 6.8 SPC TAP 110. In fact, from a 9 inch barrel, the 300BLK has more muzzle energy than 5.56mm M855 from a 16 inch barrel. When 300 BLK is used in a 16 inch barrel, it has 23% more energy than 5.56mm M855 from a 16 inch barrel - with much higher-mass projectiles for a more dramatic effect on the target. Or choose subsonic cartridges for optimal use with a sound suppressor - 220 grain Sierra OTM (open-tip match) bullets vastly outperforms a 9mm MP5-SD in penetration and long range accuracy.
Due to the high efficiency of the cartridge, less powder is used than 5.56mm, which results in a rifle that is a comfortable to shoot - even with a short barrel.
Reloading dies available from Forster products, Reamers and headspace guages available from Pacific Tool and Gauge.
Overview
300 BLACKOUT (7.62x35mm) is better because:
• Standard 5.56mm Cartridge Taper
– AR Magazines were designed to feed this taper
– Maintains Magazine capacity
– Minimizes strain on AR Bolt’s weaknesses
• Cartridge taper maintains standard resistance to bolt thrust
• Utilizes a standard AR Bolt Face, to retain Bolt Locking Lug strength
• Wide Projectile Selection
– 0.308” possibly the most popular center fire rifle bullet in history
– Wide Projectile Selection
• Proven Track Record
– Pioneering work by JD Jones with the 300 Whisper®, and others with 300 Fireball and 300-221, have proven the concept.
It looks promising other than ammo availability and cost! The original point and click interface was a Colt Peacemaker!

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
How is this any different or better than the 300 Whisper/Fireball ? Other than just a new name.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
SAMMI certified and compatible with an AR platform, it ain't a wildcat cartridge.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
If the ballistics are similar to the 7.62x39, why not get an AR chambered in that?
That might take care of the "It looks promising other than ammo availability and cost!" issue.
How are the ballistics at extended ranges, say 300 meters? What is the drop at extended ranges compared to 5.56? How does this thing compare to an AR-10 chambered in 7.62 nato?
So many questions.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
Short answer? Because getting 7.62x39 to feed through the straight magwell of the AR platform has been problematic at the best of times.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
I'd be interested, however, like stated above, it boils down to price.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
from the page
REASONS 7.62x39 wAS NOT CONSIDERED
Extreme cartridge taper
• Reduces reliability of feeding in AR Magazines
• Reduces Magazine capacity
• Cartridge taper induces considerably higher bolt thrust-
exacerbating the AR Bolt's weaknesses
• Requires a larger Bolt Face which reduces Bolt Locking Lug strength-
exacerbating the AR Bolt's weaknesses
Limited projectile selection
• 0.311" diameter not a common option in most modern bullets

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
No kidding. Point is, if the cartridge itself is not ballistically superior to 7.62x39, is in limited supply, and is expensive, what's the point of it?
Seems like a solution looking for a problem if you ask me.
I'm not sold on the idea, hence the request for additional info.

Re: New 300 ACC Blackout
The 300 Whisper/fireball may be a wildcat and not cert. with barrels and barreled uppers very common for it(compatible with AR platform) same with dies and data whats the point of this new ctg. ballistics are very similar .It seems to be a solution to a problem thats already been solved .
