Re: New tax assessment
Did they have a company come in and do the whole county? When was the last county wide assessment done? Are they changing from a 25% value to 100%? Your assessed value means little till you find out the millage rate.

Wow, our county did it but also went from a 25% valuation to 100% and adjusted the millage rates accordingly. What is her house worth on the market?
Tyler the company doing your reassessments sucks big time.

Re: New tax assessment
There is a period of time when new assessments can be protested. The process varies a little from locale to locale. Right after I bought my first house in '92 for $100,000 they assessed it for something like $130,000. My appeal was a simple mail-in protest of it and since it had just sold they dropped my assessment to $90,000 and that was that. The house we have now is assessed at a lot more than that and we were going to appeal it but a lawyer convinced me that it would not be a good idea. Here the appeal is held before a board and you have to show up and present a viable case. In my case we could well have ended up with a higher appraisal and I was advised to leave it alone, so I did.

Re: New tax assessment
She should have a letter from Tyler and she needs to make sure they have it right, number of rooms sq feet, acreage, and all the details including permits pulled. and it should have comparables nearby properties on it. Up here most came in a little under the current fair market value.
