Philly and CeasefirePA finally moving in the right direction
Legislators don't seem to understand that we gun owners also want illegal guns off the streets but not at the expense of making it harder to acquire legal guns. This is the first story I've read in ages that makes me feel they're finally starting to "get it". Prosecuting the people with the illegal guns is the best way to reduce crime. I see this as a move in the right direction and a much better way for Ceasefire to utilize it's resources instead of demonstrating outside gunshops (which does absolutely nothing to reduce crime).
Maybe they're going to make an effort to address the real issues.

Hill had been arrested four times while on parole, three of them for illegal weapons.

Three years ago, based on analysis of thousands of cases, The Inquirer reported that Philadelphia had the nation’s lowest conviction rate for violent felonies.
-
In Philadelphia in 2010, the most recent year for which statistics are available, almost two-thirds of defendants convicted of carrying illegal guns were sentenced to probation or a minimum sentence of fewer than 10 months in prison.
And another article; Cities fighting crime could use more help
The Violent Crime Reduction Partnership represents an unprecedented level of cooperation, according to Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison. The theory behind the project is that a small number of Philadelphians commit a large number of crimes.
The partnership has identified the city’s top troublemakers and is going after them.
Let's hope Ceasefire realizes that prosecuting criminals is far more effective than antagonizing legitimate business and gun owners.

Oh no worries, I don't trust Ceasefire in any way, shape or form.
But I'm hoping if they find something productive to do with their time they'll leave me and mine alone.

"illegal gun" is just another vague term coined by the anti-gun zealots. Kind of like "cop killer bullets", "easy availability of guns" The list goes on, and I have no more time, i'm going out to buy a saturday night special.

Re: Philly and CeasefirePA finally moving in the right direction
My thoughts, for what it's worth...
-a gun purchased or obtained without going through an FFL (illegal)
-a gun that is obtained and carried by a prohibited person (illegal)
It seems perfectly logical to me to refer to said guns as illegal. There are lots of illegal guns on the streets of Philadelphia. Anti-gun people typically think that the solution to their problem is breaking balls for legal gun owners (people who buy through FFLs and get background checks). If the Phila DA's office and organizations like Ceasefire are committed to going after illegal guns I don't really give a shit what they decide to call them. I prefer that they make a distinction between us and them.
I wasn't referring to stolen guns. When I refer to stolen guns I call them stolen guns.
If you have a term that you prefer to describe these particular firearms let me know what it is and I'll be happy to use that term instead.
Since the sale of televisions and cars is conducted without criminal background checks I can't really see a connection.
Are you equally disturbed by the term illegal alien?
