    Default Coyote questions

I'm a relatively new hunter but I want to hunt more than whitetail & turkey and I've considered coyotes but I'm not too sure where to start. I'm in Lackawanna and about 10 minutes from SGL 300 & 20 minutes from SGL 159. Those are the 2 I'm familiar with but I'm open to any spots. Does anyone here have any hot spots? Whether you've seen them, heard them or shot them, I'll take a look

For dispatching them I have either a .243 or my AR but I'm not sure as to what would be an optimal load for either. I know varmint rounds/fragmenting are preferred because they're less likely to pass through but there's a metric ton of them out there and I can't shoot every one of them

    Any tips/info would help, thanks

I would go with 223 over 243 for coyotes because 243 can be loaded very fast and speed kills. I've been predator hunting for years and I've yet to kill a predator. They are tough to hunt and I would recommend hunting them early in the season...as the season goes on...they learn and adapt to hunters.

You are allowed to hunt with Semi-Auto Rifle for Coyotes and Fox. Calling in a Coyote is super fun! I have killed two with my Bow while whitetail hunting. I carry a little squeaker and they come. I have also called in Coyotes with electronic callers but have yet to kill one while calling electronic.

Now Fox on the other had I have called and killed with electronic callers. Coyote and Fox calling is fun and VERY exciting. I don't have any hot spots to recommend. But I hear them at night when bow hunting and know there are around me. I also see them on my trail cameras ALL summer long!

You might have an easier time getting permission from Farmers to Fox, Coyote and Ground Hog hunt than to deer and turkey hunt. Then maybe after the farmer knows you better as a responsible coyote, fox, and Ground Hog hunter you might get the Deer and Turkey Green light..

I can understand hunting for food. But killing for the sake of killing is some twisted shit.

You tan/sell the hide for $
You feed the carcass to your dog
Killing yotes leave more deer to turn into tasty venison

I don't kill for the sake of killing but after almost flipping a tractor years ago, old Farmall with the narrow front end, due to a groundhog burrow I started shooting groundhogs. Have since gone to wide wheels but still a bitch when you run into a hole.
Coyotes have taken several calves in the hood so now I also shoot coyotes.
