Apparently in the case of the German stuff it was a known problem with acidic cardboard and inks. Not something that was an immediate issue but over the years of sitting there, yes. In fact the recent lot of MEN that came into the country about 1.5 years ago that Sportsmans Guide had, had that issue with corrosion on the ammo, some severe.

Sorry. Meant seal just the ammo without the boxes. More rounds in a bag and a much better chance of removing more air which means less moisture. And no way I would seal ammo in mags. For SHTF storage a few bags of your most popular ammo is really not a bad idea.

Loose 5.56/.223 eventually punctures the bags.

Hmm. Maybe but I doubt it. I have more than a few UK green battle packs that are loose. But their plastic is thicker which is why I'm saying maybe.

I'm talking about the bags that EM used in his example. Eventually the rounds will work a hole in them if they're jostled around like in a bag or in a car.

Yeah, and more than that, I'd be concerned that bullets could become unseated/skewed by the pressure during the vacuum process.
I've tried it on the "moist" and "gentle" settings, but it still really squeezes stuff pretty good.
Perhaps a better version of the FoodSaver unit would allow for "softer" sealing.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

What about using some of the plastic boxes us reloaders use and vacuum sealing those? That would keep the ammo from coming in contact with the plastic vacuum bag.

My freezer bags are pretty thick and I think they even make heavier duty ones. Once sealed they should not move at all. But point taken and EM should try some & report back with pistol ammo that should be a non issue.

I have two bags of 120 rounds each that were completed sealed tight, both of them developed leaks, but the bags of 12G and 9mm didn't.

Did the bags break from the ammo?
