Default Does anyone use a single action revolver for home defense?

I just swapped my Sig 220 with my Virginian Dragoon 357 for my go to HD pistol. It is just so accurate and I like the idea of having to cock the hammer as an added way to prevent a jumpy trigger finger if startled. I don't expect an all out gunfight with potential intruders so I feel adequately armed with six rounds. Does anyone else rely on a single action for defense? I also had a single shot 12 gauge at the ready but it has since been put back into the safe.

If concerned about trigger sensitivity if startled, have you ascertained the pounds pressure required to fire the Dragoon? I think a lot of SAs have very light triggers once cocked.

On the plus side when it's empty you can beat someone to death with it.

Cool, I'll take your P220 then.

Would it work? Yes. Is just about anything else a better idea? Single Shot 12 Ga? SA revolver? Talk about making things difficult. Isnt a P220 DA/SA? firing the first shot in DA should alleviate your jumpy trigger finger concern. A brown bess would also work but why?

Holdeth still young rapscallion, whilst I don my pantaloons, and cock my multi-shot pistol.

Seriously though, use what you are comfortable with. However, I agree with the poster that said leave your 220 in DA.

A fellow I know doesn't keep any of his modern guns loaded - the ammo is all secured from the hands of visiting grandkids. But his collection is mostly on display and everybody that he cares about learned long ago not to touch them. Kids and grandkids included.

However, he does keep a reproduction Colt Dragoon loaded at all times and generally available to him - it's hanging on the wall with some of his other stuff. The theory is that bad guyz would go for the stuff they recognize - not a crappy old revolver back from pre-Civil War days. The hole in his 'theory' is that bad guyz even know about the Civil War - they probably weren't members of their HS National Honor Society - which is why they're breaking into homes.

Yeah, it could work 95% of the time for the home defense thing. But as a long-time competitor shooting black powder revolvers (among other things), ignition is the key and percussion caps don't always go "bang" on the first hammer-strike. No matter, just cock the hammer again, put sights on target, keep them there, and gently squeeze the trigger (If you practice, it takes less than a second to move to the next cylinder by cocking the hammer).

You hit 'em? They're going down.

Just be sure you don't set the drapes on fire...

    Honestly I think it's silly.

Get a 5.56 carbine with a light and run a 20rd mag with 64gr Gold Dots.

    Home defense gun complete.

Yes, but instead of a carbine, make it a PEES-TOL or SBR!

I wouldn't want to use a pistol that required me to cock it for each shot unless that's what I was already used to shooting regularly.

I've mostly given up the idea of using a pump shotgun for this role for that reason.
I'm used to all of my firearms going "bang" with just the pull of a trigger until the mag runs dry.
I don't know that I want to rely on my brain knowing that I need to "pump" THIS particular gun in a stressful situation. I can picture myself pulling the trigger a second time and wondering why it won't fire.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
