The only thing I could find on the subject of thinning the heard at Valley Forge is in this article from late 2006 http://www.npca.org/mid_atlantic/valley-forge.html from the National Parks Conservation Association web site

They do the same thing at Gettysburg park. Hire "sharpshooters" with tax payers money, then throw the deer in a ditch and cover them up.
The local hunters are not to be trusted with thinning the deer heard, so instead of making money on hunting stamps, they use your money to kill and waste them.
Insane.

I seriously think the US Army and Marines have more important tasks than to have snipers take out deer.

yeah, a clear example of government efficiency being superior to the private sector.
we could make money and feed the poor through charity, or we could spend money, then spend more money feeding the poor.
Of course, i don't even think you're allowed to have a gun in a national park.

Why not have a controlled archery hunt? And give the food to food shelters?

Re: DEER SNIPERS IN VALLEY FORGE PARK
They do the same thing in Fairmont Park in Philly. The issue is that the government, by law, can't give away meat that is not FDA inspected and approved. The FDA is not authorized to inspect truly wild game so... the old catch 22.
