1911 style 9mm for IPSC?

I think I'll poll the experts here. I have been thinking about getting a 1911 style 9MM for shooting IPSC. The Para PX 18 looks pretty good at about $750. I like the weight, trigger, and S/A of the 1911 platform and I like the price of 9mm ammo.

Could I shoot production with this pistol?

Any other recommendations instead of the Para?

Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.

I'd be interested in this also. I was just comparing 9mm 1911's from Para, Springfield and STI. I would love to know if one is consistantly more accurate than the others.

You would need the LDA from Para if you wanted to shoot production. Single action is a no-no with production, first shot must be double action (or stiker fired).
I would recommend a .40 over the 9 mm for two reasons. You can make major (helps with scoring) and you can use reduced recoil loads for minor if you wanted to. Or be a real man and shoot a .45

Limited and maybe limited 10 (if they still have it, it's been a while since I played). But keep in mind you will be shooting minor power factor.

I bought a Para P18 for steel shoots, never shot a match with it LOL..... it *may* be for sale.....

Yeah the single action is for Limited (as many rounds as you can stuff in a 140mm mag), Limited 10 (10 rounds only in a mag) and the Provisional Single Stack division.

In Single Stack, if you shoot Minor Power factor and and single stack 1911, you can use 10 round magazines. If you shoot Major calibers (.40 and up), you are limited to 8 rounds in the mag.

Remember, USPSA scores in points per second (called hit factor). The scoring is like this:

Minor Major

A zone hit: 5 5
B Zone hit: 3 4
C Zone hit: 3 4
D Zone hit: 1 2

In almost any division where you can shoot Major versus Minor, the Major guns have a distinct advantage.

So...., for the most part your best guns for Limited and L-10 are:
G35
Para Double stack in a 5" gun.
STI/SVI Double stacks
CZ Double Stacks.
All of them in .40.

Out of the box, the STI is most accurate, but not so much that you'd really notice.

The 9mm double stacks feed better than the single stacks....unless you load long....or just get a .38 Super.

Or you could buy a used (mine ) P18 and get a 38 super barrel and extractor. I have two full capacity and one 9mm/38 super mags...

So if I want to go cheapo on the ammo and not reload, is a G34 a better way to go than the Para 18 because I can shoot production with the 34? So confused......must buy another pistol soon.......losing power..........
