I would imagine that he and his ilk are living as they normally do. Saying to the "little people," "Do as I say, not as I do."

Well, first... all of the Hollywood millionaires couldn't made a ripple in the lake of the current crisis, even if they wanted to.
Second, anyone with real big money isn't wanting to bail out the world economy... they want it to hit rock bottom... indeed, they saw to it that the current crisis was bound to happen... so they can subsequently buy up whatever is left of any value at fire sale prices

Re: Where is George Sorose?
Why would you even ask why a private person should bail out the country? Since when is it their job?
And as mentioned before you could get Soros, Buffet and the whole list of them and they still couldn't make a dent in the mess.
I'm just still wondering why a question like that would even be asked? Did they create this mess?

Re: Where is George Sorose?
THAT is the whole problem, not even the banks that own this paper know.
Secondly it is not just one problem, its a combination of horrible banking practices, exotic paper that NO ONE seems to understand and a whole lot of 'wild west' style betting on a whole lot of 'junk'
Not only do you have all these bad mortgages, you also have a derivatives market that is valued somewhere around $455 trillion and in that mess you have what is known as 'credit default swaps' .. essentially bets on the credit worthiness of a financial company. That mess is valued somewhere around $45 trillion. Now the problem with these things are anyone can buy them and not put a penny down and the banks have been buying them, essentially betting a competitor would fail, for years ....they are one giant cluster f*ck just waiting to unravel.
Here's is one of the best articles I've seen written on them, that just about anyone can understand (the normal ones are really painful to read)

Also remember, they have yet to open the books for AIG, Fannie & Freddie yet so there could be just about anything in them.

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...
What's the reason?
Why, if it prosper,
None dare call it treason.

Re: Where is George Sorose?
I'm sure that I am oversimplifying this but.
You bought a house you can not afford..............you can not pay....you lose the house.....bank owns the house.
Bank loaned you money for house you can not pay for........bank gets house.
House not worth what money bank lent you (mind you did pay for some of it)...........bank loses money.
Bank sold loan to another banking institution.............they lose the money.
Now this CDS thing that I just read about.
#1 gave #2 money betting that a company would fail...if the said company fails #1 gets money in return. However the #2 has no money to cover the bet so #1 gets no money. Sounds like some legs should be broken.
Sounds like somebody needs to go out of business. Some people need to lose their homes. And there should soon be a lot of nice houses for sale at very nice prices.Koli's back from Ambler.
