Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) urges Democrats to hide views on gun control because of 2018 elections
20 OCT , 2017
The Hill newspaper and Political have articles about how Democrats want to avoid discussing their views on gun control until after the 2018 mid-term elections. From The Hill:
Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) is urging his colleagues to stay away from gun control in the budget debate despite pressure from activist groups that argue the party needs to take a stand given the string of mass shootings across the country.
Schumer, focused on next year’s midterm elections, thinks it is smarter to focus on economics — specifically President Trump’s tax plan, which Democrats say is a giveaway to corporations and the rich, and GOP proposals to cut Medicare and Medicaid. . . .
“Democrats need to find courage and learn to speak to the issue,” said Ladd Everitt, director of 1Pulse4America, a gun-violence prevention group created after the Orlando nightclub shooting in 2016. . . .
In next year’s midterms, however, Democrats will be defending 10 seats in states won by Trump in last year’s election — including West Virginia, Montana and North Dakota, where guns are a big part of the local culture.
Schumer’s strategy is based, at least in part, on saving those seats and potentially winning back the Senate majority next year if Republicans falter badly. . . .
[David Saunders, who has advised former Democratic presidential candidates Jim Webb and John Edwards] warned that even though polls might show that various gun control proposals have strong support, the minority of people who oppose them often wield more political clout because they are more motivated.
“The 28 percent that don’t want it are single-issue voters and that’s why the gun numbers are so deceiving for people,” he said.
Saunders said many of those single-issue voters live in some of the Senate swing states that will determine which party controls the upper chamber in the future.Ecclesiastes 10:2 ...........

Good strategy on their part. Gun control has been a poisonous issue for them. The advisor is counting on two factors, the democrats will take the senate, and the people have long memories. There is no guarantee that the dems will take the senate, there is more seats up for grabs in this cycle for the dems. One would think the antis would of learned their lesson from columbine in not waiting too long after the tragedy to call the vote. It is appears that the antis, no matter what they do, is a lose, lose situation.

I guess I just don't see the point. Are there still people out there who don't know where all democrats stand on gun control by now? Who is actually being duped by this?
On another note, I also think they're full of shit when saying most Americans favor more gun control. Obviously, if that were the case, they wouldn't need to hide their intentions. We have all seen how honest their polling results are.
Yes, I saw their supposed justification concerning the "vocal minority" being motivated single issue voters. I don't buy it. They're full of shit. They know they don't have any kind of consensus. That's just another lie.

If they just would have went after bump stocks they most likely could have gotten them, but they are incredibly greedy and arrogant and had to try for fucking everything.

Why should they have "gotten them"? Banning guns or accessories does nothing.guns.jpg

The polls overwhelmingly show Americans support gun control. The polls show overwhelming odds Hillary will become President. The polls show polls are overwhelmingly correct.

Its good news because now days even a extreme anti gun politician is admitting that gun control is not popular with voters. It could be because when Hillary was campaigning she wasn't shy about supporting Australian style gun bans. Obviously and thankfully it wasn't a successful strategy.
However anti gun politicians often use the but "I'm a gun owner too" approach. They will pose for campaign photos on sheet shooting ranges or hunting trying to appeal to the fudds. Or they might use the Whoopi Goldberg technique that is " I 'm a gun owner, but I'm for banning just about everything that goes bang that takes a magazine".
