Re: electronic muffs??
for the price and function I cant recommend howard leight impact sports enough!, they are light, thin, and work great to dampen sudden sounds, while amplifying speech, they also have an auto shut off after 4 hrs i believe. all for about $60.00
edit: I should have stated that anything over 85db gets muted and they also have a jack for an mp3 player, etc.Last edited by CHEMICAL; January 19th, 2010 at 12:51 PM.

Re: electronic muffs??
I just picked up a set for my dad at cabelas last week. They were the cheapest they had at $40 and were also the highest DB reduction out of all the others they had on stock at 27db. They amplify sound like you wouldnt believe and they will silence at the clap of a hand. Thats how we tested them in the house, and we could here the tv in the next room plain as day. You can turn the amplification up or down. I was really surprised at how good they worked!

Re: electronic muffs??
Cheap? Forget it, don't even bother.
I bought some "cheap" (around $29) ones at Dicks a few years ago, and they were AWFUL. There was static, and since there's a TV tower not far from my range, any time I turned my head in one particular direction, I got a "squealing" interference.
I returned them the next day.
I wore some good ones that belonged to another member and they were GREAT. I believe they were in the $80-$100 range... I could CLEARLY hear what people 200 yards downrange were saying as they were checking their targets during a cease fire. It was like I was right next to them.
Sorry, I don't know what brand they were.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I got a couple cheap ones on sale for $10 each at Horrible Fright. They do what they're supposed to do, and were definitely a deal.

Re: electronic muffs??
Indeed, I got a set of electronic buds for $20 from cabelas on sale... they make the range sound like a game of call of duty, what with everything being the same volume :P
Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

The H Leights are fine. I will recommend that you don't wear them in the rain though.
