Rust on VBOB.

Today I decided to detail strip my VBOB for it's annual detail cleaning. When I pulled the left grip panel off of it, I noticed this:

I wasn't sure if this was rust at first, as it isn't pitted or anything. However, I cannot rub it off with a brass brush. It's only located on the left side of the gun, which rides against my side. The right side is immaculate.

I think I'm going to get it hard chromed. Any suggestions for shops that do good hard chrome work?

Eezox is supposed to be incredibly good at preventing rust. It might be worth looking into if you don't go with the refinish.

As a side note try some mineral spirits on a clean hand towel and see if that will work to remove those spots.

Used Mahofsky's to hard chrome the slide and barrel of my Glock 27 and the turn around time, and the work was first rate

I'll definately be going with Mahovsky's. I'll give them a call in the morning and get a few questions answered, then hopefully get the gun out by this weekend!

Yah moisture trapped under the grip from sweating, plastic/synthetic/metal grips are famous for this because they dont absorb the moisture like wood grips would.

Yeah it certainly sucks, but there's not much to be done. I use the gun a lot, between shooting IDPA, shooting at home, demonstrations in the UCFP classes, and carrying it daily. It's been starting to show some wear on the finish, which is perfectly acceptable. However, rust is not. Hard chrome will take care of the whole thing.

Eezox works great at preventing rust. My LCP gets carried during the hot/sweaty summer months and has not showed rust on any parts.

Wipe on, let dry and reassemble....easy peasy.
