Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
Wonder if they were trying to emulate this
Second Chance is a body armor manufacturing company and was the first one to use kevlar for body armor. The company was founded in the early 1970s by former U.S. Marine and pizza delivery owner/driver Richard Davis. Davis developed the kevlar vest after being shot by and shooting three armed robbers during a delivery. This incident was later documented in a 1995 book written by firearms instructor Massad Ayoob called "The Ayoob Files: The Book".
Davis started his company out of his garage. In early sales demonstrations, he would put on one of his vests and then shoot himself, usually with a firearm provided by whatever agency he was demonstrating for.Last edited by son of the revolution; April 8th, 2009 at 04:49 PM.

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
I'm not so sure that clip is fake. The audio is slightly out of sync so the slide doesn't appear to be moving when the report is heard but it did recoil a half second earlier. I'm guessing the blood is just from a break in the skin caused despite the vest.
Johnny Knoxville did a similar stunt, pre-Jackass.

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
That is definitely fake. The guy punched him in the chest to pop the blood pack. At first I thought "Wow, that wound is really bleeding." I watched it again to look for recoil (which is non-existant) and also his total lack of a reaction to the gun being fired.
I'm convinced it's fake.

Well I guess there's no reason for me to try this now that it's been done. I'll just go back to my "How much protection does a helmet really give?" test. I just need someone to wallop me with the hammer.

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
Pretty sure now it's real. You can see an impact spot on the vest where there wasn't one before and a blood pack would have made a large smear where it exploded.

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
Looks to me like it just might be authentic also . Its hard to say , at least the wound in and of itself looks real . As someone else said an F/X " Blood Bag " should have sprayed a lot more . That slow streaming trickle starts out as just a spot by his left nip and runs down . Also , if you look really close at the wound , it does look like the skin around the outer diameter of the wound is appropriately " puckered " as if being penetrated forcefully and violently . Im far from a wound ballistics expert , and the vid quality leaves a lot to be desired , but that just "looks " right . As if the bullet slowed down and mushroomed out just enough to be stopped short of lethal penetration , but with enough force /mass /velocity to leave one helluva "crater " in his chest .

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
OK, OK. Let me clear the air about any doubt as to the authenticity of the video of my brother, Ben getting shot by a 9mm. First off, yes it is real and yes, it wasn't very smart. Everyone had been out at the ranch all afternoon playing around with the vest and shooting each other with .22 shots to the back with no harm. It stung a little, but nothing spectacular. Ben said he wanted to try the 9mm to the breast plate and no body objected. As long as it was a clean shot, all should go well. Anyways, the bullet just barely got the breast plate, luckily and pinched the hell outta the skin. No massive amount of blood loss, no movie type splatter, and no "knocking him on his a$$" like I have seen so many people say SHOULD have happened. The reason you don't see "smoke" coming from the barrel is because that hasn't been a problem since the smokless powder and enclosed cartridge design. If you SLOW the video you can see the slide go back. No, you won't see a casing eject cause it happend fast...that's how guns work. It was filmed using a 3megapixle phone camera, so the sound and vid quality isn't all that great...next time we will use a sony handycam. JK. Also, no, there were no blood packets or Hollywood EFX wired to some type of trigger or whatever...we are good ol' boys and don't even have access to stuff like that. where the hell would you get that stuff and who knows how to use it...anyways, I hope this clears the air..I have seen this vid posted and re-posted so many times that alot of the story gets distorted and lost. As things do on the internet(s). A little jab at our hometown boy, Bush, there. No, we are not retarded hicks and yes we practice dubious amounts of gun safety. Everything did exactly what it was supposed to do, there was NO vest failure. It hurt, as you can hear, and the blood trickle is what happens...don't believe me, then suit up and try it yourself. Ben is doing fine....he was taken to the hospital and the Travis County Sherrifs Dept. report lists no charges were filed and it went down as drunken good ol' boy debauchery. So, there you have it....stay tuned for another installment of us on the ranch doing something crazy and hoping it all goes well. Take care, Y'all. ~Scott.

Re: Vid: Redneck, Bulletproof Vest, Shot... not so bullet proof
So much wrong here I dont even know where to start .
I'll give you clowns this , you certainly do practice " dubious " amounts of gun safety !
dubious
One entry found.
Main Entry: du·bi·ous
Pronunciation: \ˈdü-bē-əs also dyü-\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin dubius, from dubare to vacillate; akin to Latin duo two — more at two
Date: 1548
1: giving rise to uncertainty: as a: of doubtful promise or outcome <a dubious plan> b: questionable or suspect as to true nature or quality <the practice is of dubious legality>
2: unsettled in opinion : doubtful <I was dubious about the plan>
synonyms see doubtful
— du·bi·ous·ly adverb
— du·bi·ous·ness noun
Yep , I'd say that qualifies for sure !
Now lets try and address the rest of this massive run on sentence of dubious quality .
BBM
Your " harmless " and " drunken debauchery " is clearly NOT harmless , you are NOT responsible gun owners based on your own behavior and the video . You blatantly and intentionally IGNORED EVERY BASIC PRECEPT of SAFE Firearms Handling .
NEVER point a weapon at something your not prepared to DESTROY !! Where you prepared to destory your " bro" ???
NEVER mix Alcohol/Drugs with Guns , its NEVER a good idea !
Thanks for the enlightment about the reasons for not seeing smoke from the gun due to the over 100 year old and I can assure you WELL KNOWN concept of "smokless powder and enclosed cartridges " No one on this Pro Gun site would never have known of such a wonderous and long standing invention without your helpful information . BTW its spelled Smok E Less . Just trying to help .
Please dont waste anymore of your time with your juvenile and idiotic explanations of " how guns work " its quite insulting and frankly moronic on your part . It's completely irresponsible acts like this that the general public forms their perceptions of all gun owners on. Your actions are inexcusable and you should be embarrassed for your stupid and childish attempts to justify something that could easily have resulted in a tragedy for all involved .
You are do some Congratulations though , you and your "clan " just made it into the Top Five for the 2009 Darwin Awards . Do the rest of us a favor and in the future dont pick up anything more lethal then a Super Soaker . Hell that would serve two purposes , not only could you shoot each other all day long , you could load them with Booze !! Thats about the only combination of Guns and Alcohol you guys should be considered competent around .Last edited by son of the revolution; April 8th, 2009 at 03:46 PM.
