Josh just posted some details about the meeting. Looks like we'll have a minute.

Pack the place out. Speak even if you're not in the district. Pressure, question and make them look inept. It's all about crowd size and letting them know we're serious and we're not going away.

Maybe someone should bring up the fact that Pittsburgh already lost this battle - in 1996, involving Pittsburgh and Philadelphia's attempt to ban misleadingly named "assault weapons"!

    Ortiz v Commonwealth: https://law.justia.com/cases/pennsyl...-pa-279-1.html

As if it wasn't already clear, Pittsburgh's planned course of action, part of which includes a ban on misnamed "assault weapons" , is a conspiracy to violate PA law and court precedence.

So according to this post on reddit, only residents of the city will be able to speak. Is that true? One could argue that everyone in the county is a city tax payer but I don't think that argument would hold water with city council. We need PAFOA members who are residents of the city, there and prepped with talking points opposing this illegal legislation.

So long as outside money, and outside influence is pushing this agenda, outside opposition should have an equal say.

If you, as a non-resident of Pittsburgh City, can be arrested for it, then you have the right to speak your mind. Not allowing you to do so, I believe, would be considered official oppression.

Maybe you guys out west need to contact that attorney that said he'd be willing to help and has offices right across the street.

I'm not so sure about that but a confirmation with a lawyer can't hurt. We're also subject to being arrested anywhere but we don't have any say-so in NE, OH, TX, etc and I doubt that they care what I think about their laws and policies.

On the facebook event page, we have several city residents replying that they're going just in case they squelch our speech.

Per Joshua Prince they have already informed the city council that one thing they will be suing them for if they choose to go forward with is Official oppression since it's specifically named as one of he violations in the laws they are breaking.

I’m seriously pissed enough to make that 24 Jan hearing to make the point that “it’s been done befoe,” (Ortiz) and if Mayor and council proceed with this pre-emption legislation “to let the court decide,” they would be guilty of M1, and I personally intend to see that charges are brought against them for doing so, and for official repression.
