Default Re: Trumps Short List who will be best for 2A?

I suspect it will be Barrett because:

    1) Gender card. Harder for Collins and/or Murkowski to oppose her. Easier for crossovers like Manchin to support her. Bonus (as mentioned before) gives him cover if RBG goes and the best pick at that time isn't a woman.

    2) Anti-Abortion folks salved. Although I don't think R v. W is gonna be reversed, nor likely even a case that could do so accepted by SCOTUS, Barrett has enough 'cred' there for the pro-life folks to accept her. FWIW this issue is the biggest boogeyman the left is waving at their true believers and nothing will stop that. A nominee could come out and say "I will not support reversal" and they'd just say "LIES!"... So why try?

    3) Less history = less skeletons. In this day of witch-hunts against any/all nominees, her shorter tenure may be an advantage. Won't stop them inventing stuff, but less chance of some obscure sentence she wrote 20 years ago coming back to haunt...

When Mitch pushes two candidates, its time to look at those who aren't. Amy being the best one for the job on many levels, some having been mentioned already.

I like the fact it will totally demoralize the left if she gets the nomination...just because she has strong religious views and 7 kids to back it up. Not too mention she is a strong Constitutionalist.

    Snip
This passes the markshere2 " Who's against it?" logic test perfectly. Mitch is a swamp creature from way back that is catching on that he fucking well better go along to get along. If Mitch is pushing others, I'm pro-Amy.

I’m not a fan of McConnell, but I will give credit where credit is due. He may very well be the reason Trump won and is able to do the things he is doing.

Think about all the people who voted for Trump because of the Supreme Court. In retrospect, McConnell holding steady and not allowing Garland or anyone else come up for vote after Scalia died made the Supreme Court a tangible issue that people realized would directly affect them. It gave Trump a chance to put out his list of people who would replace Scalia. It gave America a concrete example of the difference between Trump and Hillary.

Trump may have still won, but McConnells move helped and may have set up the present scenario where Trump has his 2nd Supreme Court pick instead of Hillary potentially having her 3rd pick.

The underlying topic aside, are you suggesting that if *any* SCOTUS decision survives for a specified number of years, it should become irreversible?

There have been numerous past rulings overturned that were in place FAR longer than Roe v. Wade has been "settled law".

This is why. Roe V Wade was decided in 1973.

Not that once one has survived a number of years but how many times is one issue to be revisited by the SC?
