The local constable(s) in the voting precinct(s) in his district don't need to be at the polling station at all times. They just need to be available at all times the polls are open. Our constable covers 7 polling stations in our community and he ranges between them at various times of the day. He just checks in to be sure all is going well. It always has been.

The way the statute is worded, it sure appears to me that they do need to be at the polling station at all times. "It has always been" doesn't mean it's right.

Constables are the only peace officers permitted at the polls on Election Day. I haven't ever seen a constable at our polling station, and this may be why. Maybe we have one that covers several throughout the day, and I've just always missed him.

i was told "here is your receipt" and handed a sticker.
it pisses me off that we don't have any evidence of our vote, nothing except what supposedly is inside the machine.
normally they just hand me the sticker, thought it was just a token. lol

This is the exact kind of receipt we have gotten for as long as I've been voting. (about 20 years)




They tear it out of a book and then we get the receipt half and I'm not sure where the other half goes.

nope, we sign a book and are handed a card, you give card to guy at machine and then he gives you a sticker after you hit the big green button and come out of the vinyl cube.
was just disappointing to hear the words this time. feels like you might as well just be pretending to vote, not even a carbon copy.

I'm writing a letter to my county's board of elections asking why no constable was on duty at the polling place this time, or the time before that, or the time before that (like, with 167 registered voters we really get concerned about maintaining the peace?).

Hopefully he didn't ask to get paid for work he didn't perform.

In my county, you have to be there to sign the pay-sheet to get paid for the day. And I would first contact the election board and ask if there is an elected constable for that ward/township. There may not be one. If so, you could run and get elected, or petition the court to be appointed if it is several years until the next election for constable (the term for a constable is 6 years).

Perhaps you should run for Constable. Get qualified to carry firearms and you are covered under LEOSA. Then you can work the boring Polls. Been there done that!

Just be aware that the CETB voted to have no firearms training and no basic training for 2019. It still has to go through the PCCD before it goes into effect, but I'm expecting they will go along with the change, given the training fund is due to be gone by 2020.

Berks county wouldn’t want a paper trail to be able to verify their nefarious dealings.
