Default question about your ffl and transfers.

When you go to your ffl, does your dealer do the transfer first then let you check out the gun, or do they let you check out the gun before doing the transfer?

My first 3 ffl dealers always let me check the gun first before going through with the deal in case there was something I did not like about the gun and it needed to be sent back.

After the last time I went to my current dealer I realized that he does the transfer first then gives you the gun to check out. Thinking about it he always does it that way. I am going to ask him about this the next time I go, but I am curious..... what is standard practice.

Does your ffl let you check out the gun before or after the transaction?

I like my ffl a lot and he is very professional. But I am curious about this aspect of his business.

My ffl allows me to check out the gun from start to finish.Once I am called in when an online purchase arrives he places it on the counter for me to check out and inspect, same deal with private sales.

The ones I deal with always allow me to check the weapon first. I wouldn't deal any other way.

He shouldn't allow you to look it over first - he should REQUIRE you to look it over first.

Mine has always had my item unboxed and ready for me to look at upon my arrival.
Only after I am satisfied with what was sent does he start paperwork.

Well, he used to. I will need to find a new "guy" because he closed up his FFL gig.

I would not fill out the paperwork without handling the firearm first.

I have always been able to examine and at least minimal function check before paperwork starts.

I make my buyers look first. Mistakes happen and less work if I have you check it first. Buyer is on the hook to fix any issues with who they got it from if there is any but yea it's common sense to me. Unless the buyer is a Dbag I expect to make the transfer when the issue is sorted out.

Then I charge them $800 from Buds at 1730 on a Sat surcharge +PICS and looking at me funny surcharge.
