Seriously, thank you for declaring you had a firearm on your person at the courthouse entrance, before entering the metal detector. Furthermore, thank you for not reaching for it, and asking how we, at the security checkpoint, wanted to proceed. Thank you for removing the holster (a nice one at that) with your firearm, and then sticking around for us to write you a receipt, and paying attention when we directed you to our Sheriff's Office to renew your LTCF. And thank you for telling us 'be safe' when you left. I wish there were more of y'all out there.

They have to have lockers, it's law. If it's like Lancaster, you get an escort to the lockers and the deputy watches to put it in and lock up. You don't even unload. When you're done you get escorted back to the lockers, holster up, and away you go. Very professional, very easy.

Each county handles it differently. In Beaver County, we have lockers (mailbox sized) at each security checkpoint for firearms, knives, and other potential weapons (you'd be amazed). Simply declare what you have to the deputy at the checkpoint (it's highly recommended that you do so BEFORE going through the metal detector), and we'll take you to lockers. From there, we'll ask you to place the weapon inside the locker, write you a receipt for it, and that's that. Once you're done with your business, turn in your receipt and we'll have you retrieve the weapon yourself.

We only have issues when someone decides to declare it after they make the metal detectors go berserk, or when they're being wanded down. At that point we're already on alert, and reaching for the item in question to show us does not help. Again, you'd be amazed. Thankfully, most folks exercise common sense.

This is very similar to how Lycoming country does it also. I always step off to the side at the desk right before the metal detectors and tell them. They escort you around to the lockers then.

Clarion county courthouse has lockers as soon as you go through the doors before the screening area. No declarations needed, If I remember right it takes a quarter to lock your carry gear. Get your quarter back when unlocking to leave.
