Question A West Point cadet went missing with an M4 rifle on Friday,

A West Point cadet went missing with an M4 rifle on Friday, officials from the military academy said.

How come it's an M4 RIFLE when a Cadet dissappears with a select-fire carbine , aka ASSUALT WEAPON , but when a private citizen has a semi-auto only copy , the news calls that an ASSUALT WEAPON?

Kind of hard to give tips about the missing cadet when the missing cadet hasn't been identified.

I like how they increased security at their events but also said there is no threat to the public.

He got away with no ammo or mags apparently.
Sending out his photo and ID to all the gun shops would be prudent.

Or maybe he's already bought mags and ammo from any number of sources.

He is old enough to buy a rifle, and stealing one like this puts a big target on him, can't expect him to have a sensible coherent plan.

Nope, he was given an Other than Honorable discharge and kicked out. No punishment of any kind, even though he didn't finish his 5 year obligation required for attending West Point.
