Default Stainless 44 Magnum, Pinned Barrel and Recessed Cylinder/Not a S&W

I found this ca 1980-87 Astra Stainless Model 44 which is a S&W clone of a Model 29. It has two features I like in smith's and that's the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder plus it's built like a tank.

    What do you think?

Thanks Chief, Only S&W magnum and 22lr revolvers had the recessed cylinder and I believe they stopped doing that by 1980 or so. I also think this gun is modeled after a 5 screw Model 29 which is definitely something S&W stopped doing way before this gun was made.

It's my first "N" frame revolver and first .44 magnum revolver but I'm sure it wont be my last since a blued model 29 is something I've had my sights set on for a while now.

    Best regards,

    Kobsw

Astra made solid revolvers. I have a 960 in .38 that is a 5 screw style gun. Pinned barrel, recessed cylinders, etc. Very good shooter as well. Personally, if you haven't bought it, do so. You won't be disappointed.

Here's a short YouTube video I did on mine:

They also had a 3" .44 called the Terminator. I missed one on GunBroker earlier this year. Really would love to find one of those.

The cartridge rims sit down in recesses in the cylinder instead of just sitting on top of the cylinder.

Top cylinder is non recessed, bottom is recessed.

R L... thx for sharing that video. I bought the .44 for $150 plus a well used Lee Enfield for $150 so $300 hundred for both. To be honest I thought I'd be more excited about the Lee Enfield but there's just something about that Astra.
