Default Looking for advice on 1911's with rail

    Hello,
I am looking for some 1911 advice. This will be my first 1911 pistol and i would like for it to have the rail for attachments. I have so far looked at the ATI FX 45 Thunderbolt and the Taurus 1911B-1. They are both in the $700 dollar range.
Anyone know any pros or cons to either of these specific models?

Would there be any other low cost 1911's that would com with the rail system?
Since this is going to be my first 1911 id like to keep it cheap but at the same time not buy a piece of junk.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Taurus ,not much on the ati. You could add a rail to the gun, theres a couple different company's that make them. You will get more answers asking your questions here. http://forums.1911forum.com/index.php
You must pay attention to the man behind the curtain. Or you will loose.

Shot my PT1911 for the first time today. Great gun. I didn't go with a rail, becuase I'm unlikely to ever want to bolt anything onto it. But the PTs with rails look to be the same gun with a rail on the lower.

If you've got $700 to play with I'd save for a little while longer and get a Springfield.

This was just listed in the classifieds. http://forum.pafoa.org/firearms-6/13...11-w-rail.html I have a non railed Taurus and have had zero issues as well. Although most forum members here wont believe me, it shoots as well as my 1200 dollar Kimber.

Im not a huge fan of 1911's myself.
But take a look at the 1911 that Sig Sauer makes.
I handled a few of them at the NRA convention and they really are nice. You may pay a little extra for a Sig 1911, but they are well worth it. And in my opinion they looked to be of a better quality then some of the Kimber 1911's I saw.

There are four PT 1911's in my home, but none have rails (just not my thing on a 1911). They all perform flawlessly and my personal (blue PT) 1911 has close to 5000 failure free rds on it having only used WWB (200 rds of WWB JHP just to be sure there are no feed ramp issues). If you get a PT, call Taurus to find out when it was built before purchasing. You want one built in 2007, or later. Most issues I have seen or heard of are 2006 pistols. I agree with another poster in that if you really want a nice 1911 with a rail, a Springfield Loaded or a Colt rail gun will only set you back another $250, or so, and you will not have to worry about having the patience of a saint (like I have) when dealing with Taurus's CS. Don't get me wrong, the PT, in my opinion, is the best 1911 for the money on the market, and is better than some costing more. Even if mine broke, I would buy another because you get a lot for the money. Personally, I like the grips that come on it, but it seems to be an area of contention with most PT owners. Happy shooting!

If you can't swallow the primo price tag, Rock Island Armory is coming out with a railed gun sometime soon. It debuted @ SHOT this year. Looks SEXY. Full length dust cover; nom, nom, nom...

As rwb and Wilson guy said,,,,, save you money a little longer and get a Springer. Much better CS, should you need to use them.
    George,
So many guns, so little money.
