Default Shelf life of 22lr ammo

I have some 22lr ammo that is about 8 years old, would it still be viable to use in a mag feed bolt rifle? It is mostly Thunderbolt and Remmington bulk.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

As long as it was stored in a cool dry place you should be golden. The worse the storage conditions the more you will have failures. It is bulk ammo so you will have this to an extent anyway.

You could try shooting some of it. That should give you a good idea whether it works or not.

I will be shooting it as soon as I get a chance but I just wanted some opinions as I am on a discussion forum and wanted to start a conversation.

Pffft. 8 years? That's it? If you did have any problems, I would be highly surprised.... Unless you stored them in the bottom of a fish tank. Eight years is nothing for most ammo unless they are stored in the most austere of environments.

I can't remember the last time I've bought any 7.62 ammo that was made this century.

Right around 2000 or so my dad gave me a box of 500 .22's (I think they were Winchesters) he found in the basement. Easily from the 1970's, it had a Two Guys Dept. Store label on it and the price was like $2.

The cardboard box was pretty crumbly and a little swollen from the damp basement. I plinked them all with my 10/22. Don't recall any problems.

This was 30 year old ammo, not stored properly. Kept cool and dry, who knows how long it will last.

I'll be 44 in June - your ammo has a longer shelf life than I do, at this point.

I just got back into shooting. I had 2 clips for my Marlin rifle so I figured Id shoot them and put fresh in. The only problem I had, was the bolt wouldnt eject the casings after firing, I had to dig them out with a screw driver. Put fresh in and they were fine. The brass must have expanded or something?

I was givin a brick of .22 from about 20 years ago. looked very clean and box was not damged at all. Every other round seems to fail to eject out of my semi auto. Some of the rounds werent very loud at all either. Ill still shoot the stuff out of my bolt action rifle though

I have some OLD stuff, stuff I had when I was still single, some, I better get this right, 39 years ago. Do the math. I still use it to plink and it works just fine for general varmint control. I wouldn`t worry about .22 ammo, the stuff I have will still be good when I`m long dead and rotted away.
