Default Legal to use dead deer for target practice?

Anyone ever picked up fresh road kill and brought it out to shoot at?

Maybe it's a little f'ed up, but my friends and i talked about pulling a fresh deer off the road next time we find one dead and bringin it back to my friends land.

Anyone know if this is illegal or not?
I dont think it's illegal to shoot a dead animal?

Our goal is (none of us are hunters, yet) just to see what the damage is to flesh with our different calibers of pistol/rifle, etc.

Now that its cold out its a good time of year to try these experiments. The deer don't rot as fast and wont be as smelly.

i don't see why not. that's actually a good idea; cheaper than what what did last year, which was buying meats for knife/gun tests.

Dont you have to call the game commission or police if you take a dead deer off the road. I remember years back my fathers friend was behind a car that hit a deer and the police or someone maybe the game commission had to give him a tag for the carcus.

You could be considered as hunting then:

A GCO could technically inquire = are you legally licensed? legal firearm/projectiles? hunting legal on property? etc

    34 Pa.C.S.A. § 2301

§ 2301. Prima facie evidence of hunting

    (a) General rule.--For the purpose of this title, any one of the following acts shall constitute prima facie evidence of hunting:

    (2) Possession of the carcass or any part or parts of any game or wildlife.
    Stick to non-game targets.

Pennsylvanians may claim road-killed deer and process
the meat for their personal use. To do so, they must call the Game Commission
regional office representing the county where the collision occurred and an
agency dispatcher will collect the information needed to provide a free permit
number, which the caller should record. A resident must call within 24 hours
of taking possession of the deer. Antlers from bucks killed in vehicle
collisions must be turned over to the Game Commission.

Not sure how well that would work.
Most roadkill is either smashed, or has started setting.
How will that compare to fresh/living flesh?

    +1

A kid I know got in deep shit when he took a dead deer off of the road without calling the game commission.

They came to his house and like an idiot, he let them in to search...basically, he's not allowed to hunt for like 5 years.
