Handgun training at French Creek Outfitters vs Targetmaster
I will be looking into some handgun training in the next few weeks and up to this point had only considered the courses at Targetmaster. However, I recently learned about training at French Creek Outfitters on the forum and will be calling/visiting FCO soon. I do not have much experience with firearms and I am looking for basic handgun training that I can build on. I also plan to utilize the initial visits to pinpoint the handgun that I will purchase as my first CCW.
Does anybody have any experience or can anyone make recommendations between courses at either location? FCO is closer to me, but like I said until a few weeks ago I was only aware of Targetmaster. Thanks for the input.

If you go the FCO way, get classes with Brian and no one else.

Sounds one sided so far. So Brian huh? Thanks for the feedback. Did any of you guys consider any other ranges or courses?

I never took a class there, or from Target Masters, but my wife use to work at FCO, and I know Al, and I know Brian. If I were to take a class there, it would be from Brian.
Once you get the basics down, I would recommend InSights Training's General Defensive Handgun, they do it in Harrisburg, and it was well worth the $$$ without having to drive across the state.
My wife and I took it last September right after we moved to VA. For a brief summary and review you can look HERE."We shoot to stop. ... Unfortunately, death can be a byproduct."

How much experience do you have with firearms and what are you looking for from the training?

Not much familiarity with firearms (at least it has been a long time for me). My dad owned a few revolvers that we shot on a range and learned firearm safety with. So basically I'd say I am starting from zero.
Interested in finding a beginner course that I can then build on with confidence. Starting from an introductory/safety level then building on that to include CC defensive/situational training. Might have written that in a naive sounding manner but I figure why redo the road when there seem to be so many experienced people here willing to share advice. Like jdlv4_0 who wrote:

I took the classes at Targetmaster... a little pricy... but most firearm training is. The instructors were good, and the training hasn't let me down yet.
Just because you've sat through the classes dosen't mean you can start playing SWAT... it just means you have a little more knowledge in how to control a firearm, and probably survive better.

4right2freedom, it looks like there is going to be an NRA PPITH course in April that may fit your needs.
