OC'ers know there is always going to be a chance for a negative encounter, especially the OP,.
He chose to OC with his family, knowing this, so he chose the fight.
He seems like one of the OC'ers who chooses to look for the encounters, like so many do.

So he chose a fight while minding his own business, doing something completely legal? And then even made a concession to keep the peace?

Looks like you're the one that may need a change of attitude.

Technically, that attitude is called "being an adult instead of a spoiled brat".

Brats throw tantrums in the supermarket, brats don't care who's around when they get into loud arguments. People break up with their girlfriends or boyfriends at dinner in restaurants because they expect that it will avoid a loud, nasty scene, and they're usually right about that.

There's a middle ground between extremism and passivity. The current GOP is a bunch of losers who will never push back with any real enthusiasm, the current DNC is a bunch of commie freaks who won't stop their demands until they're killed. Try to find that sweet spot in the middle, where you fight when it's wise and you don't fight when the circumstances are such that only an idiot would fight.

Nobody negotiates with a rabid dog. They just put it down. Don't be a rabid dog.

I am adding this to my mental repertoire, as amended.
