You might as well ask what car should I buy.

I'd get either a Rock Island or a Nighthawk.

    Don't get a 1911!

Once you do, you'll find yourself secretly downloading pics of custom 1911s & awake all night, visiting the Wilson Combat website & slobbering all over your keyboard like a porn junky.

Saying you want a 1911 is like saying you want a pick-up truck. The brands , features and price tags are practically endless.

Lower end- Rock island tactical (on sale of course)

Higher end - I see lot of griping about tight tolerances but the sigs are really nice and packed with a lot for what you spend. Just my experience.

That 70-series Colt that JenniferG suggested is a great recommendation. If your budget is low it’s worth the stretch. If you’re a little more spendy you can get a great gun and add some accessories and ammo.

Personally I wouldn't buy or recommend a Colt. Though I've owned two (shot one so much I cracked the frame). There are too many worthwhile clones on the market. You could go to Rock Island on the low end to a Ruger SR1911 in middle or a Les Baer or Rock River @ $2K+. If you do decide on Colt search the used market for a Series 70.

Everything else is just an imitation. When you take it out of your holster and shoot it and others see it they're going to think the same thing.
