Default PA Senate Bill 531 (Preemption) up for vote next session

SB531 is due for a vote this month, according to the Senate calendar. Please encourage your legislators to vote in support of this bill.

An Act amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, in general provisions, providing for findings regarding firearms and ammunition; and, in preemptions, providing for regulation of firearms and ammunition.

Preemption will prevent local municipalities from imposing their own draconian gun control and creating a crazy patchwork of regulations for law-abiding gun owners to navigate through.

PA already has a preemption law:
§ 6120. Limitation on the regulation of firearms and ammunition.

    (a) General rule.--No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.

Or is making laws to reinforce laws just job security?

I think the Pennsylvania powers-that-be have to be willing to enforce the existing laws.

The law needs private rights of action, since our elected officials routinely disobey their oaths. Private rights of action, civil damages, and recovery of attorney fees.

It also allows us to sue without standing. Meaning we don't need to be prosecuted before we can bring the issue to the court and gives member organizations the right to sue the municipality

This is already the law of the land in Pennsylvania. What is the importance of the thread?

You obviously haven’t been paying attention to what was going on in Pittsburgh et. al.

Don’t worry about your 2A rights. Perhaps someone else will for you.

Thank you. That is huge. Of course I will write my reps. One thing I like about this about this is that it is a pro-2A bill and we are often not on the offensive enough. I expect a Wolf veto, but it is still worth the effort to force him to do it.
