Thumbs up Ported SA XD9 V10 Video

The ported XD9 I recently acquired has been the cause of much discussion, so I figured I'd post a video. The idea was to capture the blast coming out of the ports, but it wasn't really dark enough, and I didn't have time. Also, this was crappy range ammo. I'm going back to the range Friday, maybe I'll wait until things get a little darker and get my hands on some hotter ammo. I'm also going to try to take some high resolution still images of the ports in action, so that should be interesting. Big thanks to camera girl Mrs Rwb1500.

Good enough! You can see the fire in three shots. Scan must have missed the others.

That ought to be enough to melt the eyebrows.

Wow - that muzzle has zero climb.

Is your nickname "ironfists" or does that porting really make that big of a difference?

You know, I'm not exactly sure. I've never used a non-ported 9mm XD, so I don't have a great point of reference. I can say that the felt recoil is minimal, practically non-existant compared to my KT PF9. Just a little lift of the hands and a big boom. I'm liking it more and more every time I shoot it.

It is pretty easy to keep 6 rounds on an 8 inch circle target in fairly rapid fire.

I know, I know, I also need to quit smoking... I'm just getting into the bad habit of wanting this gun as far away from my face as possible.

I recently videotaped myself shooting my Glock 20C (10mm with ported barrel). I did so near dusk and had the camera set on a tripod facing me shooting. I still did not get a very good shot of the blast leaving the ports. I can certainly see it when I am shooting though.

I can't speak for rwb1500, but I have two pistols with ported barrels. I have my G20C and a Tisas FS9. Unfortunately, I don't have non-ported versions of these guns to compare with... but I was very surprised at the light muzzle climb with the 10mm. I can't help but attribute that to the porting.

The drawbacks of a ported barrel are the distraction of the blast in low light and the white portion of the front sight post becomes darkened after only a few rounds.

rwb1500 - do you have that trouble with your XD as well? (the darkened front sight post)
loose≠lose; you're=you are; 'your' shows possession.

I certainly do. The XD has 3 white dots and after 50 rounds it only has 2 white dots. It doesn't take much and the front dot disappears. I usually fold a little cotton swab and dip it in Hoppes Number 9 and use the corner of the folded patch to wipe the dot clean. I'm fairly sure that I'll need to repaint that dot sometime soon, the paint already appears to be wearing off.

I can now say that I've shot both the ported and standard XD in 9mm.

The ports do make a difference. Felt like a .22

Oddly though, I really don't remember being distracted by the flash, but I did only shoot a few rounds.

I agree, if you're concentrating on the front sight you really don't notice. That might be different at night but I have yet to try that.
