    Default Making leather holsters...

Not sure if the CC/OC forum is right place for this...

I want to custom make some holsters for myself and I have someone else who also wants me to make some for them. My background with leather working is limited to deerskin and furs, not the veg tanned tooling leather used for holster making. I am also familiar with using snaps, rivets, screwposts, and whatnot.

There was someone here a while back who works with this type of leather who made an SOB holster and posted about it here in the CC/OC forum , but I don't remember who it is. I am just looking for some tips.

My plan is to buy leather and supplies from Tandy Leather, but I would like to know what weight to buy for the leather, and some other things. I want to make an IWB that is comfy for my figure, that is my first concern/project.

This is not something I plan to make a career out of either, if I make holsters for others, it will be a person here and there deal, kind of like when I make fur hats, or like the one customer I made some leather bags and an Nyala African antelope vest for. Nothing commercial that would put me in competition with pro holster makers.
    LOL, I am a woman...

I'm not sure if it's the same person you're thinking of, but Lucas makes some really nice leather holsters.

PM Lucas. He has made holsters for several members, and does nice work. I'm sure he can answer your questions.

I am very happy with the holster lucas made me. My brother has one almost identical to mine and he's extremely happy with it too. We have unoficially dubbed it the "slim carry" model1. from Lucas leatherworks.

I'll try to find the thread with all the pictures of his work. This holster is comfortable, very discrete, draws well, and most importantly has very good retention. I was hoping he would be at the shoot so I can tell him about my "testing" last night.

I went to a party last night and danced my ass off. I did everything short of break dancing including totally going nuts to house of pain's "JUMP" The gun never budged during 3 hours of straight up boogie hustlin'.

Here's a few of mine. It's kind of "minimalist" style. He can make yours however you want. Looking for more.

Here's the one he made for my bro. The finish gets better as they are worn, and polished.
