Default Carry of a Pistol not registered in your name!

When it comes to married couples or relatives, is it ever appropriate or legal to carry a firearm that is not registered in your name? I know the complications and risk associated with it... but is it legal?

There is no complete "registry" in pa, but a party with a LTCF can carry a firearm owned by another party provided both hold valid LTCF's.

For ownership (of handguns specifically) you must still transfer @ an FFL unless the parties are parents, children, granparents, grandchildren or spouse'

I think what he is referring to is the Pennsylvania Insta-Check Database maintained by the PSP. All firearms transferred or sold within the commonwealth are recorded in the database, which LEO typically try and call a registry, though it is not and often can result in your out-of-state purchased or aquired firearm being confiscated illegally.

The Uniform Firearms Act specifically prohibits any form of "registration" in PA. The PSP have a small problem understanding plain English (as do the courts) and are maintaining an illegal database of sales information they are legally required to destroy. But it is entirely possible that a given firearm may not appear in said illegal database. Or it may have been pruchased by a person and subsequently LEGALLY sold to another. THe database would not reflect this either.

There is no such thing as "registered in your name".

Incorrect. It is perfectly legal to sell a long gun, face to face, so long as you do not have reason to believe that the buyer is otherwise prohibited from owning firearms.

No paperwork of any kind is required.

Pretty sure we all carry Pistols not registered in our names every day. In Pa there is no registry. yes, there is an illegal record of sales, but that's not a registry. There's no registration.

According to the Pa UFA, with a LTCF you may accept a loaned firearm.

Poorly worded. I should have said "transferred or sold at FFLs" are recorded in the database. Obviously, this would not include rifles or shotguns involved in private sale or inheritance.

I can not cite specifics, but I think it is a reasonable move to have at least your primary carry guns in your name.
    ...and they have a plan...
