    Default SKS Finish Touch-up?

now that the pistol is heading off to be refinished i can start another project. basically i have about 20 years worth of projects that have been piling up so im trying to knock them out one at a time here.

ok, Chinese SKS... there was some light rust underneath the trigger guard and on the barrel forward of the stock retainer so after i deal with that what would be the most economical way to ''touch up'' the bluing?

Use one of these along with some penetrating oil to remove any surface rust.

Then touch it up with cold blue just use a good one I highly recommend Oxpho-blue from Brownells.

Before I invested in a blast cabinet and black oxide dipping chemicals I used to do entire rifles with just these two items with excellent long lasting results.

I hear ya either way it's a fair amount of work and for smaller jobs it's not always worth blasting and completely refinishing. I found a post I put up on another site awhile back with a rifle I did by hand using the two items I put above. I can still see the photos being hosted by photobucket if you cannot see them let me know.

disassembly and reassembly of the SKS trigger group is a PITA so doing it by hand maybe a bit easier in the long run.

i can see the photos. looks great. yeah i have no intentions of taking apart the trigger group. i was just going to touch up the flats and bottom then call it a day.

That's a tough one. probably an hour and 15 to an hour and a 1/2 depending on how quickly you can get to a highway. I'm just outside of Pottstown.

Hey, you never know what traffic's going to deal you...unless it's 1600 then you know you're really screwed. It's some 20 miles just out 422.
