Default CCW While Riding a Bike

I want to take a ride down the river trail in Philly but I hear there has been some muggings in the trail.

Wondering what is the best way to CCW while riding a bike. Any good hoslters out there?

I'd say fannypack. It would, IMO, be the most secure and subtle way to carry while riding a bike, you have the peace of mind knowing that an errant bump or ride up a hill won't affect your carry piece. Plus, lots and lots of people ride bikes with a fannypack to carry some gear and a granola bar or something, so nobody would ever suspect you of carrying.

And remember that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don't ride that trail too late in the day, ride with a friend if possible, have a cell phone on you if possible, have a safety whistle on you that you can blow for help in case of emergency, etc.

A good friend of mine was in the same boat. He opted for switching to ankle carry for when he goes out on the bike, since he always wears jeans and boots when he rides. I'm not sure it's exactly the best option, but it's available... I'm just really not a fan of ankle carry.

The pouch that bike messengers use to hold their U-locks fits a mid to full side handgun perfectly and doesn't look out of place. The good ones are also built to take a beating.

Duck tape a stubby between your butt cheaks? Shouldn't show under spandex.

If you are worried about being mugged when riding, you want a carry system that lets you get to your gun quickly. Why not just carry an OWB holster?

I think the concern is not wearing IWB/OWB because when you ride, usually the air flow will lift your shirt most of the way up your back and now you have an open firearm hanging out there in traffic... Last thing you need is someone losing their cookies over some "gun-toting maniac in traffic waving a gun at people" call to 911 to spoil your day.
