Default How often do you shoot your carry gun

My carry gun is a Sig Sauer 1911 C3, I don't tend to shoot mine a lot, once every three months or so, mostly when I decide it might be time to change out the ammo for a fresh load of Remington 185g +P Golden Sabers. Even less with my SP101 that I only carry occasionally and then only some .38 specials instead of the .357's I carry in it.

I do have a Sig P238 that I got for deep concealment when I need to, but haven't carried it yet as I haven't needed to or shot it enough yet

But I have other 1911's and pistols/guns I shoot more often

I shoot with my carry gun(s) regularly, at least twice a month, to keep my use of them sharp. i also love to shoot them

ETA: plus dry fire drills, which i do more of than actual shooting.

My wife and I currently go to the range for a structured practice session every other week (50-100 rds of specific drills). Dry fire drills 2x each week.

I try to participate in a monthly IDPA match also, though this summer was busy and I missed a few shoots. The good news is that the club runs the IDPA matches year round.

This year I have been able to attend two defensive pistol classes, with a third scheduled next month.
Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

i would love to be able to shoot more often, but i just don't have the cash to throw downrange right now. i try to shoot my M&P as often as possible,, but dry fire drills are much more common than actually shooting. i try to get to the range once a month, but i haven't been shooting for quite some time now. $0.30/pull of the trigger adds up real quick.

Lately it's been once a week, sometimes twice. Usually about 50rnds of 9mm each time. Once winter hits, I'll likely go down to twice a month, weather pending. I also run about 60rnds a month through my AR15 too.

It makes good sense to practice regularly with your carry gun to keep your skills sharp. When I bought my first handgun, I would not carry it outside of the house until I could prove to myself that I could reliably hit a target from at least 20 ft. away. Normally self-defense situations are much closer, but better to be accurate from farther away.

I question the wisdom of carrying .357's but never shooting them, especially in a snubby. There's a huge difference (recoil, muzzle blast, noise) between them, even in my much heavier GP-100. Another consideration is that many doctors are of the opinion that even a single .357 round fired indoors without hearing protection can cause permanent hearing damage. IMHO, .38 sp +p is a better choice.
