Shipping a pistol to CA - approval letter required?
I just sold a pistol on Gunbroker to a person that lives in California.
His FFL sent me a copy of their 07 license and also stated that a CA approval letter must be included.
Well I never heard of that and my FFL didn't either.
I was sent a link about it.
Their FFL said my FFL has to take care of this.
The only good thing is that the buyer is a LEO so he can accept the 12 round mags the pistol comes with.
I really didn't know about this letter and maybe someone can give my some insight on this.
Thanks

Re: Shipping a pistol to CA - approval letter required?
You must have an approval letter from the CA dept of Justice with an approval number before you can actually ship the firearm to a CA dealer, if your firearm is not on the approved list you can't sell to the person. I use to do this ,but it's not worth the effort required. Most dealers are going to charge an extra fee to cover their time spent. I as a dealer stopped selling all firearms to CA, not worth the effort.

Re: Shipping a pistol to CA - approval letter required?
We have shipped a couple of firearms to California, they did a pretty good job to make it easy for out-of-state FFL's to sign up with their DOJ program and get approval numbers before shipping. NOTE: Non-FFL's are NOT require to get preapproval before shipping. See question 2 below. My recommendation, ask their FFL if you can ship directly to them.
